Postcard #29. A Mosaic

Samantha from Perth requested “A Mosaic” which are of course everywhere in Rome. The one which caught my eye was located in the Vatican and was a sign advertising something called a “Pinacoteca”.

The new Vatican Pinacoteca (Art Gallery) was inaugurated on 27 October 1932 in the building especially constructed by the architect Luca Beltrami for Pius XI. This means that the mosaic I was admiring was less than 100 years old, which explains why it was so shiny and new, it’s also created from metallic tiles and I wanted to capture this effect in the postcard.

I created an actual mosaic from glass tiles for postcard #5 and that took me five weeks, so I decided to take a quicker approach for this one and used metallic paper. I copied the colour scheme and layout, and the result was actually fairly successful.
