Postcard #30. Bella Tipografia

Russell from Melbourne requested “Bella tipografia” which put a lot of pressure on me because it means “Beautiful Typography”. Whilst in Rome, I took photos of everything I deemed to be beautiful typography, but in the end, this was a sketch I did whilst at a typography workshop. Most of the typography I was influenced by in Rome was decorative or classical Roman, but for this I wanted to try my hand at some calligraphy.

Once the design was sketched, I laser etched it into timber and painted it red and gold to capture the essence of the beautiful illuminated manuscripts we saw in the Biblioteca Angelica, because for me, this was the most beautiful type we saw on the whole trip.
